Report on Food Insecurity in Warrnambool 2022 for South West Healthcare
As a passionate believer that access to affordable healthy food should be a right, not a privilege, I was very proud to be asked to design this very important report on food insecurity in Warrnambool.
“With the cost of living steadily rising in Australia, the daily challenge of consuming nutritious foods is getting harder. For many, the increased cost for essentials such as rent, mortgage, energy bills and petrol, can result in food becoming a discretionary expense. This means that many people may not have enough money to be able to afford adequate and nutritious food, resulting in an insecure and inadequate food supply.” South West Healthcare Health Promotion.
The South West Healthcare Health promotion team investigated the experience of food insecurity in Warrnambool in 2022, due to growing concerns regarding local food insecurity. Supported by some powerful data and survey results, I was excited to design this report with the goal of presenting the findings in a compelling visual manner.
The report is aimed at targeting community change makers, local and state government and community welfare organisations and highlighting key food insecurity issues in desperate need of attention. My approach to the report design ensured key messages and essential data was presented in a way that communicated clearly to the reader. Key findings were magnified by the use of infographics and thoughtfully designed charts and diagrams, so that the reader could digest important information quickly and comprehensively, without reading large amounts of text.
In keeping with the South West Healthcare visual brand identity, the report design features simple, yet striking flat illustrations of fresh food and everyday people throughout the pages.
The result, is a powerful online and printed report that may be used by decision makers with an opportunity to make a positive impact on food security in the Warrnambool area in future years.
